Did I ever mention that I absolutely ADORE Howard Stark? Maybe in first "Iron Man" he hadn't much to do (only being dead and mentioned by others), but in second one his line "Because my greatest creation is you, Tony..." was just wonderful. And then we had "Captain America: The First Avenger", where Howard Stark not only is alive but also kicks ass! Being billionaire, inventor and major hottie is one thing, but this guy flew through enemy's territory to help Cap with his mission, not to mention that his reaction on explotion of Tesseract's essence was just a bit confused: "Write it down."
Daddy Stark, for your awesomeness in all three movies, you will forever hold special place in my heart.

Yeah when I see Howard in Captain America 1 and "Agent Carter" Serie, I can't imagine him being violent or abusive.
He's the guy who, for save Peggy, has give himself to the police.
He's the guy who loved the most Steve after Peggy and Bucky, until the point where his greatest regret was the "death" of Steve and his greatest wish was to find Steve for Peggy. (Cf: last episode of first season of Agent Carter)
I mean he's a DORK. He cares about people, even if he's a asshole sometimes (not very worst that his sass son).
I can't see him cruel and abusive toward his son. Maybe cold. Maybe not the father of the year but not abusive.
